Postdoctoral Fellow - Dairy Science
Three-year fixed term role working in our Department of Agricultural Sciences.
Mō te tūka | The role
We are seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to help contribute scientific expertise into the externally funded research project called: 'Low N dairy farm systems' and the wider portfolio of research programs on sustainable dairy farming systems at Lincoln University.
You will be supporting the research team in management and development of farm system study, data collection and analysis, report writing and scientific article publication.
The research program is designed to identify effective mitigation strategies to reduce N loss which can be combined and implemented on farm, with the help of decision support tools, to enable dairy farmers meet environmental goals, government regulations and market expectations.
This is a three-year fixed term role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln Campus.
Remuneration for this role is $65,000 - $70,000 per annum.
Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role
To be successful in this role you will need:
- PhD in animal or agricultural science or in a discipline relevant to dairy farm systems
- Experience in data analysis with proven Excel and statistical skills
- Have experience working in field environment, with emphasis on animal, pasture and diet measurements
- Possess a sound understanding of ruminant nutrition and lactation with reference to protein digestion and metabolism and relationship with milk yield and composition
- Familiar with the use of animal sensors
- Experience with laboratory techniques, such as wet chemistry methods for ruminant diets
- Evidence of research interpretation, reporting and manuscript preparation through a developing record of scholarly research and publication
- Ability to manage and analyse large datasets
