Māori Communications Advisor - 1-year fixed term, 0.5 FTE
About the opportunity
Manaaki Whenua is the Crown Research Institute responsible for understanding our land environment and unique biodiversity. We are engaged in world-leading and impactful science across many linked disciplines.
We are committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi in all our activities. These principles are Partnership, Participation, and Active Protection of Māori interests, especially in the natural environment. We aim to support iwi as kaitiaki through internal Māori leadership and co-leadership of our research.
To support this work we currently need a Māori communications advisor for a fixed-term contract for 1 year to build profile about our science and research reputation with Māori, the public sector, media and government. You will also communicate internally across the organisation to help our staff develop their bicultural capabilities.
This vacancy is ideally based at our Lincoln site, although other Manaaki Whenua sites may be considered.
About you
You have several years' experience working as a communications or PR advisor, including demonstrable experience of working with and for Māori.
Experience of working in the science sector is desirable.
You have a sound understanding of Mātauranga Māori, the Treaty of Waitangi, Māori research methodologies and tikanga.
You have experience of effective, culturally appropriate engagement.
Ideally you also have qualifications and proficiency in Te Reo.
