  • We have an exciting opportunity to join our Information Technology Team.
  • We are looking for a talented computing engineer who is up for the challenge of working in a dynamic and ever-changing IT environment.
  • This role is focused on supporting of our Scientists with a range of information technology challenges with a major focus on services and software running in a Linux environment.
  • Interest, skills and experience across a range of platforms including cloud-based services or high-performance computing infrastructures would be advantageous.
  • Training in some areas of specialty relating to science needs will be provided.

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials and other biomaterials. Specialists in propagation and forest management, we lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based circular bioeconomy.

Key accountabilities:

  • Responsible for management and maintenance of Linux platforms working with Science and the wider IT team to ensure platforms are functionally fit for purpose, reliable and secure.
  • Provide specialist applications support including support for bioinformatics and data science disciplines.
  • Advocate for and support process automation of science workloads to achieve science and operational outcomes and impacts.
  • Support the services that provide rapid deployment of environments to meet science demand.

To be successful in this role, your skills and experience will include:

  • Degree in information technology, computer science or related disciplines.
  • Experienced Linux administrator in an organisation with complex IT needs.
  • Experience with science or technical services organisations will be an advantage.
  • Excellence in building key relationships and trust and ability to influence others.
  • Ability to support projects with complex technology needs, where collaboration across the organisation and across IT is required.
  • Interest in and awareness of new developments in technology, an ability to evaluate and test, and help others to do the same.
