Applications are invited for a continuing position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Design within our dynamic and growing Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our Design group  and contribute to the delivery and development of our design and manufacturing curriculum. Applicants with a strong track-record which will complement the Department's expertise in design and manufacturing in the following areas are particularly welcome:

• Form and analytical design of single components and assemblies especially in the context of rotating assemblies.
• Creative design.
• Innovation especially in relation to specialist products for niche markets.
• Manufacturing processes and manufacturing management systems.

A PhD degree or equivalent is required for this position. Experience in, or working with industry would be well regarded.

We are seeking candidates who are motivated to develop and maintain a vigorous research programme in their area(s) of expertise and who would relish collaboration with other researchers and industrial partners nationally and internationally. The University encourages interdisciplinary projects and our Department has strong links with industry, academic groups in New Zealand and overseas to support the new appointee in growing strong and productive networks. Our laboratories are well equipped, and housed in a spacious, modern building. Internal funding supports the purchase of capital equipment for research.

This position offers the opportunity to help further develop and enhance our teaching programme. The successful applicant will be required to deliver core undergraduate course in design and manufacturing, and to offer other courses in line with their specific area of expertise. Previous teaching experience would be beneficial.
