Working for Christchurch's second largest employer, our campus is vibrant and offers opportunities to diversify and develop your experience, while making a valuable contribution to the University's strategic objective: nurturing staff and thriving students.

Our growing team is laser focused on moving the dial beyond reactive to strategically led, deploying a de-centralised "hub and spoke" management model. On a regular basis you will work with stakeholders to assess and rectify health and safety concerns, giving practical advice and support which means there is a constant need to seek out new information and work with the many experts within UC.  You will coach and support senior leadership team members and senior managers to challenge their thinking, ensuring they develop a better understand of their roles and responsibilities for health and safety and assisting them to develop their capability. This crucial work will create a space where staff, students and visitors can give their best in a safe, supportive, and people-focused environment.

UC is not boring! We offer a vast range of teaching, learning and research programmes, in Sciences, Arts, Law, Business Studies, Engineering, Education and Health. Our service units are the business management functions of the university. We have a large Facilities Management team which incorporates all trades, asset management, building and campus maintenance, and major capital works projects.

You have significant experience leading and implementing Health and Safety practice, in a large complex organisation. You have experience in deployment of HOP/Learning Team/Safety II principles and experience developing health, safety, and risk frameworks. You have experience managing and implementing improvement projects.

You have a human centric approach to the way you work and have an ability to establish professional relationships and gain the confidence of staff at all levels. Ideally you have a Degree or Graduate Diploma in Health and Safety or related discipline and a HASANZ accreditation (or relevant professional experience).

Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With

You will be rewarded by working with a team of dynamic, innovative, and highly talented People and Culture and Health and Safety professionals and in an organisation that will provide you with a wide range of benefits and professional development opportunities.  We are a values led organisation, looking for someone who is innovative and is prepared to work hard to make a positive difference.

Our Council is highly motivated in the health and safety governance of the University and there are regular opportunities for the Business Partners to interact with them through our Council health and safety engagement programme. Working at UC can be a lot of fun! We work closely with the UCSA, student clubs, and student accommodation partners to ensure our students have a great, safe experience while they are at UC.
