Te mahi/The role

This pivotal leadership role within Property Services is responsible for the daily management, planning, and co-ordination of all Electrical and Controls activity across the University of Otago campus in Dunedin.

This opportunity will see you involved in a range of exciting projects, offering variety and diversity of work from commercial, new builds to residential and specialist science laboratories.

You will provide professional advice to clients on all Electrical and Controls trade matters, including repair, maintenance, or alteration work, as well as new electrical and controls associated work.

Aside from your leadership and extensive practical experience within all areas of the Electrical and Controls industry, this role requires a professional collaborator, able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with a diverse range of people across multiple disciplines. 

As a leader responsible for managing and supervising workloads daily, your ability to instill trust, and build an engaged collaborative team operating in compliant, safe work environments will be paramount. 

You’re a critical thinker and effective communicator, with exceptional organisational skills, which support working to project time frames, and adapting to changing environments. Experience with financial management, cost analysis and running a budget is also required. 

Desired qualifications and experience:
•    Current NZ Electrician Registration and current Electrical Practicing Licence.
•    Extensive knowledge of the Electrical sector.
•    DALI Lighting system experience and management. 
•    Building Management Systems and BACnet protocol experience.
•    Variable Speed Drive installation and programming experience. 
•    Comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Electrical standards, regulations, and Health and Safety requirements.
•    Experience managing teams.

Property Services, as part of the wider University of Otago is a division responsible for buildings with a replacement cost of NZ$2.5 billion, and more than 22,000 hectares of land. With over 3,500 University Staff and 20,000 students, it can be a bit like helping to run a small town.

We deploy, support, and maintain a wide and exciting array of equipment and facilities including state-of-the-art research laboratories, large student accommodation facilities, and a variety of multi-use space from teaching facilities through to restaurant and café venues.

This is a permanent, full time (40 hours) position, located in Dunedin.

The appointment range for this role is $90,165 to $98,515. Top of Range $106,863.
