The role/Te mahi

As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will provide assistance with research consultation with local rūnaka, whānau Māori, and mana whenua, to inform the design and conduct of University and Marsden-funded research projects.

Key tasks of this role include:
•    Attendance and note taking at hui with participants.
•    Data processing (transcription of hui, qualitative analysis, data entry).
•    Recruitment and liaison with participants.
•    Administrative support for the project (recording keeping, web page maintenance, archiving).
•    Contribution to developing publications arising from the project.
•    Contribution to developing ethics and research protocols for the research projects that the hui informs.
•    Literature searching and management.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful candidates will have:
•    A minimum of an honours degree, with a research component, in psychology or a related subject, or an undergraduate degree with previous research experience.
•    Excellent time management, self-direction, independence and organisational skills.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills.
•    The ability to work well with others in a team.
•    An ability to learn new skills, take feedback and adhere to research protocols.
•    Appreciation of the ethical responsibilities of the research team and the sensitivity and sovereignty of the information collected from participants.
•    Te Reo skills and experience with Kaupapa Māori research methods, knowledge of tikanga (preferred).
•    Experience with transcription of interviews.
•    Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., EndNote or Mandalay) (preferred).
•    Strong communication (oral and written) skills.

This is a fixed term (February 2024 to June 2024), part time position, located in Dunedin. Hours are variable (average 15 hours week) by mutual negotiation.
