The role/Te mahi

As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will work closely with the Delivering optimal weight gain advice to pregnant women (DOT) study Investigators and the Dunedin-based Assistant Research Fellow to carry out the Health Research Council funded case study. This role is located in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland).

Key tasks of this role include:
•    Establishing strong relationships with and assisting to recruit and support Lead Maternity Carer midwives in Te Tai Tokerau.
•    Becoming the main point of contact between Lead Maternity Carer midwives and the DOT Study research team.
•    Responsible for the delivery of study equipment and materials to Lead Maternity Carer midwives.
•    Liaising with participating Lead Maternity Carer midwives and visiting their practices to ensure data collection accuracy and completeness.
•    Assisting with the organisation of study intervention training and clinical update workshops.
•    Collating relevant local information, resources, and community services in local communities throughout Te Tai Tokerau.
•    Assisting with the organisation of study interviews.
•    Maintaining accurate study records.
•    Working remotely with the Dunedin-based Assistant Research Fellow.
 
Your skills and experience/Ngā pūkengā me ngā wheako

We are looking for candidates with:
•    Excellent organisational and record keeping skills.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•    Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
•    An understanding of Māori Health
•    An understanding of Iwi and Māori Hauora Partners.

It would be advantageous to have: 
•    Work or research experience in community settings.
•    Competency in te reo me ona tikanga.
•    Experience working within the health sector, specifically in Māori Health.
•    Knowledge of lifestyle guidance in pregnancy would be an advantage.

About our team/Mō te tīma

The Delivering optimal weight gain advice to pregnant women (DOT) research team is interdisciplinary and collaborative. Team members work for different organisations across New Zealand, including the University of Otago, Victoria University Wellington and Te Whatu Ora. The research team is working with community and health providers in Te Tai Tokerau.

The role is based in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) and the successful candidate will need to be able to travel across Te Tai Tokerau as necessary.

This role is fixed term (2 years), part-time (0.6 - 0.8 FTE) negotiable with the suitable candidate.

Flexibility to communicate with Lead Maternity Carer midwives outside usual working hours will be necessary.

Access to a phone and the internet, if working at home is necessary.
