Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Curator to join the Teece Museum team in the Faculty of Arts caring for the world-renowned James Logie Memorial Collection. In this role you will support excellence in education by assisting with outreach and educational experiences for primary, secondary and tertiary classes, and community groups. Your focus will be on community engagement and public programmes, but in this small team you may also be called upon to assist with registration, collection management, research and exhibitions development when required. The Teece is based in the historic Arts Centre in the heart of Christchurch and has strong links with related heritage organisations and the wider community. You will work closely with Curator Terri Elder, the Department of Classics, and the wider UC Arts City Campus team.

Mōu | Who You Are
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, experience working with museum collections, and preferably also experience working in education or public programmes delivery. You will enjoy working in a team and have an interest in working with children, young people, and families.  Professional qualifications sought include a bachelor's degree in in classics, art history, anthropology, or history, and/or a postgraduate qualification in museum / heritage studies, education or a related field.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team
  • demonstrated ability to work safely, respectfully and confidently with museum collections
  • strong communication skills (written and oral) and demonstrated ability to work well with both children and adults
  • excellent organisational skills
  • a high level of computer literacy with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite. Working knowledge of the Adobe creative suite would be an advantage.

The UC Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities connects to and engages with a wide variety of audiences, by caring for the world-renown Logie Collection and making it accessible for teaching, research, education, enjoyment, and outreach. The Museum is located in the history Arts Centre in the heart of Christchurch, where we share a facility with the Department of Classics and the School of Music. The Teece also works closely with a variety of other arts and heritage organisations in the city.
