Job description

The Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials (ZIAM) at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen conducts research addressing fundamental properties of functional materials and devices. Within the Theoretical Chemistry group there is an opening for a software engineer. This research focusses on the development of hybrid classical/quantum dynamical methods for studies of lightinduced processes and quantum effects in biomolecules and novel materials.

Profile of the position
The software engineer is expected to:

(i) develop a user-friendly interface between Q-Chem (electronic structure software) and Quantics (quantum dynamics software) within our in-house code PySurf (https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jctc.0c00825 ) that enables an efficient databased accelerated on-the-fly quantum dynamics (~80% of the time)
(ii) contribute to running research projects in collaboration with PhD students and postdocs (~20% of the time).


Qualifications

For this position, we search for a candidate who has:

  • a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and/or Physics
  • good knowledge of electronic structure, quantum/semi-classical dynamics and vibronic coupling model
  • first-hand experience in quantum chemistry and/or quantum dynamics software development, preferably MCTDH, Quantics, and Q-Chem
  • excellent programming experience in Phyton
  • excellent organisational and communication skills
  • excellent proficiency in using English (orally and written).

The University of Groningen offers, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary from a minimum of € 2,846 (scale 10.0) up to a maximum of € 3,807 (scale 10.7) gross per month for a full-time position depending of relevant experience and training
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% year-end bonus
• a temporary appointment for a specified period of 12 months within the University Function Ordering System (NL: Universitair Functie Ordeningsysteem, UFO) the position is classified as Education and Research Technician- O profile 2.

The starting date is 1 March 2022
