Temporary teacher Analytical Sciences Education

If you have a background in Analytical Science and Technology and are interested in applying new teaching methods to modernise our educational programme, we are keen on talking to you as we are looking for someone to temporarily support our Analytical Science education program. Amongst our aims for MSc students we seek to foster active engagement, critical thinking, and practical application of knowledge, preparing them for dynamic and evolving demands in their respective fields after they leave the UvA.

In general, you will be tasked with teaching and modernising the Analytical Sciences MSc programme covering fields in Separation Sciences, Mass Spectrometry, and/or Chemometrics and Statistics. Depending on your expertise, you will serve as coordinator for two courses and be tasked to evaluate, update and further develop these within the Analytical Sciences MSc programme. What are you going to do?

With our teachers you will be tasked to give and improve our education to prepare students for evolving challenges they face, while at the same time you will help in streamlining the educational processes. As someone who understands the learning process and can integrate modern methods into our existing Analytical Sciences curriculum, you are expected to:

  • establish projects on development and modernisation of the programme as a whole with emerging methods in teaching;
  • organize better overall alignment and coherence between the individual courses of the Analytical Sciences MSc programme;
  • be responsible for teaching, evaluating and modernising selected Analytical Sciences courses, depending on your background;
  • interact with our teachers concerning updating and modernisation of their courses;
  • integrate on methods that leverage new educational technology to enhance communication, personalisation, collaboration, and assessment in the education process.

What do we require?

  • MSc with >5 years of experience in Analytical Sciences, a PhD in teaching and/or Analytical Sciences research is a plus;
  • a demonstratable expertise in one or more analytical sciences fields of Separation Sciences, Mass Spectrometry or Chemometrics and Statistics;
  • demonstrated experience in teaching and development of new teaching methods;
  • the ability and willingness to lead and advise existing staff;
  • you are able to show knowledge and personal leadership in the area of teaching;
  • you will be able to discuss advise and connect with our student community.

Our offer

A temporary contract for 30-38 hours a week, preferably starting as soon as possible for the duration of 12 months. You will receive employment through UvA JobService staffing agency. The job profile Lecturer 3 is applicable.

The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be € 4,332 to € 5,929 (scale 11) gross per month, based on a fulltime contract (38 hours a week). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities  is applicable.

About the Faculty of Science and the Graduate School of Sciences

The education is provided by lecturers and researchers working at various research institutes, including the van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS), the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KDV), the Institute of Physics (IOP) and the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy (API).
