We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative technician to strengthen our Toxicology Division!
Job description
At the Toxicology Division of the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), we aim to improve the scientific basis of chemical risk assessment through fundamental and applied innovative research, teaching and training in mechanistic and predictive toxicology. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative technician to achieve these goals and strengthen our Toxicology Division, which is made up of 4 research groups: Endocrine, Immune and Neurotoxicity and Exposure Assessment. You will be working mainly in the Endocrine Toxicology Research Group. This research group is focused on investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of endocrine disrupting chemicals using in vitro approaches and zebrafish. You will support students and (PhD) researchers working on diverse projects that aim to investigate the potential adverse effects of diverse environmental chemicals on endocrine-related disease and disorders. Examples of these projects include the European projects GOLIATH , AURORA and the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC).
You will work with various advanced in vitro models (cell lines, primary cells, stem cells) and different culture conditions (2D, 3D, barrier models) to elucidate if environmental chemicals can ultimately disrupt the endocrine system leading to adverse effects. Additionally, you will work with zebrafish larvae to elucidate affected endocrine mechanisms after exposures at the level of an entire organism. You will use various techniques, ranging from PCR, and cell bioassays to cellular imaging (fluorescence microscopy) and bioinformatics analyses. In addition, an important part of your work will involve taking responsibility for general laboratory maintenance as well as duties such as ordering, management of instruments, and maintenance of our electronic lab journal system. You will work in a team with other technicians to ensure the smooth operation of the labs.
