As a scientific programmer, you will work alongside existing teams of scientists and developers to further develop, expand, automate and implement these innovative AI models. Using our already established infrastructure, you will collaborate with clinicians from various departments to bring these technologies to the forefront of patient care. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to education in the new Medical Data Science master's degree and provide digital skills and coaching for all students.

Requirements
Specific Requirements

We are looking for a self-motivated research software engineer with an interest in medical imaging and excellent communication skills in English. You should have an MSc or PhD degree in Computer Science, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or another technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Moreover, you should:

  • Be able to work autonomously, analysing complex business requirements, designing and implementing sustainable solutions for health(care) problems, taking into account security and operational restrictions.
  • Have experience working in a remote asynchronous-first team, using written communication to clearly and effectively express your ideas.
  • Have experience with developing open-source, scientific software that is used by others.
  • Be familiar with Medical Imaging, DICOM, and AI applied to this domain.
  • Have experience of working in a devops environment using an agile development process.
  • Be familiar with web technologies having developed for, and/or operated, a web application for thousands of users. Specifically you should have deep expertise in:
    • (Operations Engineer) managing infrastructure with terraform, architecting applications on AWS, operating cloud native applications, CI/CD, containers, orchestration, networking, performance, reliability and security.
    • (Backend Engineer) python, Django, htmx, containers, postgres, AWS Services including SageMaker, S3 and ECS Fargate.
    • (Frontend Engineer) python, javascript, MeVisLab, VueJS, websockets.
  • Be capable of directing small teams of Software Engineers and PhD Students on bound projects.
  • Have experience training more junior members of the team, supporting users and disseminating your knowledge.
  • Have experience working with academics and clinicians to define the direction of the product and contributing to grant applications to acquire funding for the team.

  • A gross monthly salary between € 4.325 and € 5.919 (scale 11) based on full-time employment.

  • As a full-time employee (36 hours per week), you are entitled to approximately 168 vacation hours (over 23 days) per year.
