Offer Description

This position is part of a large project recently funded by the European Union’s IPCEI program. Here, the University of Twente together with academic/research organizations and industrial partners join forces in the development of a sustainable data center.

We have an open postdoctoral position available in the research domain of advanced thermochemistry. The job includes the computational modeling of a novel thermochemical heat transformer for upgrading low-temperature waste heat from the data center. You will be part of a team of experienced and ambitious PhDs striving for scientific excellence within the stated science domain. You will be offered the ability to work closely together with existing Ph.D. candidates to develop your leadership and mentorship abilities.

Project aim and description:
You will lead the development of numerical models for thermochemical heat transformers for data center waste heat upgrade systems. You will use X-ray tomography methods to perform pore-scale simulations to understand the heat and mass transfer limitations in structured thermochemical materials developed using additive manufacturing techniques. You will also develop the numerical models for designing the prototype scale thermochemical heat transformers. Furthermore, you will be responsible for investigating the complete system including efficient heat management, and performing a techno-economic analysis. You will also be responsible for report writing and interaction with the project partners.

Your first responsibility is to carry out the research, but you are also encouraged to acquire teaching experience. We support you in broadening your knowledge by joining international exchange programs, participating in national and international conferences and workshops, and visiting industrial companies, research institutes, and universities worldwide.

Requirements
Specific Requirements
  • We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-driven researcher.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or other relevant science, engineering, or technology subject area.
  • You have expertise in advanced thermodynamics and heat and mass transfer model development for chemical processes.
  • You think independently, develop creative and original work, and are a problem solver with excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • You want to work in international and multi-disciplinary environments.
  • You are proficient in English, both speaking and writing.
  • You have already conducted eminent academic research in the given discipline, which is reflected in publications in high-quality academic journals and peer-reviewed books.
  • You will mainly work on research and will be engaged in developing research project proposals. You may also be engaged in teaching activities (not the main duty). You will have the possibility to extend your network.
