Deadline: 31 Mar 2024

Are you passionate about nanofabrication? Are you interested in the advancement of semiconductor technology, integrated photonics and quantum research? Do you thrive in an innovative research environment surrounded by experts who share your enthusiasm? Are you excited about playing a leading role in supporting researchers achieve their goals? If your answer is a "yes" to these questions, we would like to hear from you!

The TU/e
Eindhoven University of Technology is one of Europe's top technological universities, situated at the heart of a most innovative high-tech region. Thanks to a wealth of collaborations with industry and academic institutes, TU/e's research has real-world impact. Through excellent teaching and research we contribute to advancement in the technical sciences, to the development of technological innovations, and as a result to the growth of prosperity and welfare in the region and beyond.

The NanoLabTUe
One of the top laboratories at the TU/e is the NanoLabTUe . As part of the NanoLabNL consortium our NanoLabTUe serves as a shared, open-access facility that is centered around a state-of-the-art cleanroom laboratory. Its primary objective is to facilitate and accommodate cutting-edge research activities of TU/e researchers in the field of nanofabrication. NanoLabTUe hosts a wide range of TU/e researchers and is also used widely by researchers outside of the TU/e as well as commercial parties. Key areas of expertise are processing of compound semiconductor devices for integrated photonics, quantum devices and advanced nanomaterials. The focus lies on low technology-readiness levels (TRL 0-2) but through dedicated partnerships, NanoLabTUe also facilitates researchers that aim at valorization of their research (TRL 3-7).

The position
As the managing director of the NanoLabTUe you are responsible for the day-to-day business operations in and around the cleanroom laboratory. Within this shared facility setting, you supervise a group of 13 technicians that ensure our research facility and service level is in optimal condition, that the capabilities stay state-of-the-art and that users get trained on the equipment. Your primary role is to be proactive and supportive towards the researchers and your technical team. Excellent management skills and a good overview of the research fields involved - with a lifelong learning attitude - are key.

The managing director coordinates activities related to the acquisition, maintenance and exploitation of the equipment. Responsibilities include budget management in terms of controlling costs and generating internal and external revenue, safety management, and communication with the TU/e user groups and external parties. You will have a key role in the strategic investment plan by scouting new developments in nanofabrication and linking this to the needs of the user community. As such you are the project leader of the TU/e part of the QuantumDeltaNL/NanoLabNL investment program in cleanroom equipment. You will coordinate the internal investment teams that prepare public tenders and participates in the NanoLabNL steering group.

One of your major challenges in the coming years will be to manage the foreseen move of the NanoLabTUe to a new facility built by the TU/e and ASML at the TU/e campus. At first your role will be to coordinate an extensive range of TU/e requirements for the new cleanroom (e.g. datatraffic, logistics, health & safety, cleanroom design & installation) and to monitor all specifications during the construction phase of the cleanroom. Subsequently you will set up a project plan to prepare the move of the equipment and you will manage its actual transfer to the new building in 2027 guaranteeing all requirements and providing maximum possible availability of equipment to users. This move and the further collaboration with ASML involves establishing effective communication and a good working relation with ASML.
