Job description

The Mechanical Engineering faculty is seeking a technician to work full-time (1.0 fte) in the laboratories of the Dynamical Systems Design division. In these laboratories experiments are conducted for education and research in the fields of robotics, mechatronics, and automotive technology. The technician we are looking for will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the electrical components of experimental setups in the lab, with a focus on road vehicles and/or their components. This includes for example processing sensor signals and controlling autonomous vehicles, developing a test bench for hybrid powertrains, and realization of a control and data acquisition system for a tire test rig. Designing and realization of these innovative experimental setups is custom work, which is done in close collaboration with students, researchers, and technicians. Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, and managing experimental setups for education and research, focusing on the electrical components and associated software.
  • Coordinating the realization of research setups by third parties, such as TU/e-EPC and suppliers.
  • Assisting with various educational tasks as a co-supervisor in the setup, execution, and maintenance of educational lab setups.
  • Contributing to the organization of lab demonstrations and information sessions.
  • Ensuring safety in the lab.

Job requirements

We aim to fill this position with an experienced and enthusiastic individual educated in Electrical Engineering or similar profile at HBO level (through education and/or work experience).

The following is important for this position:

  • Proactive and independent.
  • Service-oriented in supporting lab users, especially students and researchers, in both education and research.
  • Pragmatic and efficient.
  • Expertise in designing PCBs and prototyping environments, such as dSPACE and/or Speedgoat.
  • Familiar with communication protocols used in the automotive domain (CAN, Flexray).
  • Knowledge of software, such as MATLAB/Simulink. Knowledge of Python and/or ROS is a plus.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and mastering new techniques and methods.
  • Team player with good social and communication skills.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

Conditions of employment
  • The position is classified in scale 9/10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, with a salary ranging from a minimum of €.3.226,- to a maximum of € 5.090.,- gross per month based on a full-time appointment.
  • An end-of-year bonus equivalent to 8.3% of the annual salary (equivalent to a monthly salary) and a holiday allowance equivalent to 8% of the annual salary.

  • A temporary appointment for one year. With good performance and under unchanged circumstances, a permanent position will be available.
