Junior Lecturer Criminology (0,8 FTE)

Job description The Utrecht School of Law is looking for an enthusiastic Junior Lecturer in Criminology. As a Junior Lecturer you are part of the teaching staff of the Willem Pompe Institute and responsible for teaching activities in our Bachelor’s programme. You will teach in the Minor in Criminology in the following courses: Transnational Organised Crime (period 1), Advanced Criminology (period 2) and Criminological Research (period 4). In addition, you will contribute to all other activities related to teaching in the Bachelor's programme.
Qualifications For this position you must hold a master’s degree (criminology, criminal law, cultural anthropology, sociology) preferably a MA/MSc. in Criminology. Furthermore:
  • You have a demonstrable interest in providing university education. Teaching experience and possession of a BKO certificate (Basic Teaching Qualification) are recommended.
  • You are versatile and you know how to transfer your knowledge to your students in an enthusiastic way.
  • You have a demonstrable interest in and knowledge of criminology.
  • Your scientific publications in the field of criminology are a recommendation.
  • You have good communication skills and can work well in a team.
  • You have an excellent command of the English language in word and writing.
  • You are flexible with regard to working hours: education is provided on Mondays to Fridays between 09:00 and 19:00. Exams are sometimes taken in the evenings.
Candidates who are about to graduate are also invited to respond.
Offer This is an appointment of 0,8 FTE for the duration of one year. In case of a good performance, extending the employment is one of the possibilities. 
The minimum gross salary is €2,846 and the maximum gross salary is €4,490 (scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities) per month, at a full-time employment.
Besides that, you will receive a holiday allowance of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 %. The Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law Sciences is the Criminal Law Division of the Law Department. This department provides education in the fields of (Dutch and European) criminal (procedural) law, criminology and forensic psychiatry, both within the bachelor's degree in law and within various master's programmes. In addition, the Criminal Law Department has been providing executive education for many years. For an overview of the education offered by the department. Research by the academic staff is conducted within the framework of the three departmental 'research focal points': Liability & Responsibility (Ucall ), Regulation & Enforcement (Renforce ) or Rule of Law & Administration of Justice (Montaigne Centre ). The research is characterized by a multidimensional approach. Employees of the Criminal Law Department also participate in university research programmes, in indirect and contract funding projects, as well as in international research projects.
