Offer Description
We are looking for an excellent theoretical scientist with recognized expertise in quantum optics and quantum networks to join QuTech as a Group Leader. Ideally, you find inspiration in collaborations with quantum information experimentalists, engineers, and theorists.
You will be appointed within the QuTech Career Track, with the expectation of a permanent, tenured, position following a positive evaluation after 1 ½ years. Consideration of applications for a tenured position are possible for exceptionally well-qualified and more senior individuals. You can expect a start-up package to enable a quick start of your research program and group.
At QuTech (a collaboration between TU Delft and TNO) over 300 scientists and engineers work together to develop scalable prototypes of quantum computers and a quantum internet, in a highly interdisciplinary environment. The position is embedded in the Quantum Internet division, which focusses on quantum networks and distributed quantum computation. Together with the Departments of Bionanoscience (BN) and Quantum Nanoscience (QN), QuTech constitutes the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft, creating further collaboration opportunities.
If you are motivated to teach, it is possible to participate in the university curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate level, in collaboration with the faculty of Applied Sciences.
This position is established as part of the Quantum Software Consortium (QSC) program by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science through the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. QSC is hosted by three research clusters: QuTech, Leiden University, QuSoft (a collaboration of the University of Amsterdam, CWI and Free University Amsterdam). You will be expected to contribute to the QSC for the duration of the grant (2027), and to find synergy with related research in the Quantum Internet Division at QuTech.
Requirements
Specific Requirements
You should have a successful scientific track record and formulate an independent research program addressing current scientific and technological challenges.
Furthermore, we are looking for a colleague who is passionate, committed and respectful. In QuTech group leaders, we value leadership and a sense for initiative in combination with a strong team spirit and willingness to contribute to the organization. We expect a positive, open-minded and professional attitude, and a strong work ethic. Finally, we are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills and intercultural sensitivity.
Additional Information
Benefits
You will be offered a QuTech career development track (1.0 FTE). You will start with a temporary contract of 18 months that will be converted to a permanent contract after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation. During the QuTech career development track, we expect you to develop from a starting Group Leader to a Group Leader 2 level within 5 years (or a maximum of 8 years).
Being part of the QuTech career development track, you will be offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on personalized development and performance criteria agreed upon at the start.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities starting at scale 11 (€ 4.332,00 - € 5.929,00). For senior candidates an option to start at scale 12 could be considered (€5.247,00- € 6.737,00). The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged and you can work partly from home.
For international applicants, TU Delft has the Coming to Delft Service. This service addresses the needs of new international employees and those of their partners and families.
