We have a vacancy for an Assistant Professor with a strong teaching profile in Interaction Technology who can contribute in particular to our Bachelor's programme in Information Science , and to our Master's programmes in Human Computer Interaction and Game and Media Technology . You will also supervise individual BSc, MSc, and PhD candidates.
Depending on your expertise, you will be embedded in one of the following research groups in the Interaction division:

  • Cybernetics
  • Human-Centered Computing
  • Visualisation and Graphics
  • Social and Affective Computing
  • Music Information Computing
  • Multimedia

To support your teaching activities, we have infrastructure available, including a motion capture and virtual reality lab , a human-centered computing lab , and a prototyping lab .

Profiel

We are looking for a new colleague to complement our team at an academic as well as at a personal level. You are a team player with a proven commitment and talent for education and research. You fit well with the position’s profile as described above and meet multiple of the following qualifications:

  • a PhD, or nearly finished, in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Game and Media Technology, or a related field;
  • experience with, or readiness to, supervise BSc and MSc theses, and PhD dissertations;
  • experience with and enthusiasm for teaching, innovative teaching methods, and student supervision;
  • experience with, or readiness for education-related committees and decision-making;
  • proficient in English, both written and spoken (C1 level). Dutch proficiency or willingness to learn is a plus.

Aanbod

We offer:

  • a position as Assistant Professor (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for 18 months - after positive evaluation, this will be converted to a permanent contract;
  • a full-time gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranging between €4,332 and €5,929 per month (scale 11- according to the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) Dutch Universities). If you are an experienced Assistant Professor, scale 12 may apply, which ranges from € 5,247 to 6,737 per month for full time employment.
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the CAO;
  • special perks include:
    • for starting Assistant Professors: an Individual Development Plan providing i.a. training and mentoring to support you to grow from Assistant Professor level 2 (salary scale 11) to Assistant Professor level 1 (salary scale 12);
    • support for travelling to conferences and various educational and development programmes offered by our University.

The department provides and contributes to a number of undergraduate and research Master's programmes in the fields of Computer Science, Information Science, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. It employs over 200 people in four divisions: Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Algorithms, Interaction, and Software. The atmosphere is collegial and informal.
You will join the Interaction division . A social, international group with over 60 staff members and PhD candidates. Our work is motivated by real-world applications and we have long-term research cooperations with organizations and industry (for example in our Center for Game Research and AI Labs ). Our work is published open access in outlets and led to several patents and software licenses. We aim to generate value for both science and society and, consequently, have an impact.
