Contributing to safe and reliable nuclear energy within the unique work environment and community offered by the TU Delft Reactor Institute , part of Delft University of Technology.

We seek a research fellow driven to advance the safety, sustainability and reliability of nuclear energy. You will develop theoretical knowledge of nuclear reactor physics and apply this in modern numerical methods and codes. By combining advanced multi-physics methods and other calculation techniques you push the limits on useful information you can extract from nuclear power plants. The impact of your work is improved safety and reliability of nuclear energy. Examples of calculation techniques used are machine learning, uncertainty analysis, reduced-order modelling and statistical methods.

In addition you will provide expertise and leadership in advancing nuclear reactor physics in the Netherlands and contribute to international collaborations. TU Delft offers a wide range of radiation sources and has close collaboration with partners from industry and government.

The positions are at the level of assistant professor (Academic Career Track) or associate professor, depending on background, experience and leadership(potential).

Assistant Professor

During the Academic Career Track, the expectation is for you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within five years, but maximally within eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.

Salary scale 11-12: €4.332,-- to € 6.737,-- per month gross.

Associate Professor

For an Associate Professor position, we offer an initial temporary position with the prospect of a permanent contract. After a positive performance assessment, you will be employed in a permanent Associate Professor position.

Salary scale 13-14: € 6.002,-- to € 8.025,-- per month gross.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

The department of Radiation Science & Technology has unique expertise in using ionizing radiation such as positrons and neutrons for research and education. We have direct access to our 2.3 MW nuclear research reactor equipped with  advanced beam-line instruments, irradiation facilities and radiological laboratories, and to the Holland Particle Therapy Center including the proton beam research bunker. Our research focuses on materials science with emphasis on energy conversion and storage, health technology for imaging and diagnostics, radionuclide therapy and proton therapy. Innovative and sustainable nuclear energy is part of our portfolio as well. The department provides education to students in the fields of physics, chemistry and biomedical sciences.  It counts about 20 PI’s, 20 support staff and 70 PhD students and postdocs.
