Job description
We offer a position in the Mathematics of Imaging & AI group within the Department of Applied Mathematics (AM) at the University of Twente (UT). We are looking for a highly committed research scientist whose focus is at the interface of data science and nonlinear analysis of PDEs and inverse problems. This includes for instance the theory of uncertainty quantification, harmonic analysis, geometric deep learning or data-driven reduced modelling with impact in the mathematics of scientific machine learning.
You will actively develop your mathematical profile as well as collaborations within the multi-disciplinary research context at the UT; for example, within the MDS or SACS clusters, the Digital Society Institute (DSI) or within the TechMed Centre . On a national level you will be supported by the NWO sectorplan Beta and will profit from engagement in a strategic research initiative (SRI) on “Bridging Numerical Analysis and Machine Learning” of the 4TU Applied Math Institute or the national NWO AI & Mathematics network .
You will be involved in the teaching program of the department of Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor and Master level, and the department also supplies service teaching to other programmes and faculties. and you will transfer your specific expertise to the master program.[BB1] During the first three years, you will acquire the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). The research and teaching share is 50/50, with a reduction of teaching to 30% during the first three years.

Requirements
  • You are passionate about innovative research, illustrated by publications in international journals.
  • You are ready to take up the challenge to acquire research grants, either via personal schemes, such as within the now Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (VENI/VIDI/VICI) and the European Research Council, or in collaboration with others.
  • You have excellent communication skills, allowing efficient interaction with colleagues from other departments and are proficient in English.
  • You have acquired a PhD degree and have a strong affinity with- and training in inverse problems, PDEs, uncertainty quantification, learning theory, nonlinear analysis, numerical analysis or scientific computing.

Part-time is negotiable.   • The position is at Assistant- or Associate Professor level, with a monthly salary ranging from € 4.332,-- (scale 11) to € 8.025,-- (scale 14) gross depending on qualifications.
  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO) and include a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
