Your Role...

The group researches single-satellite, constellation and formation flight mission concepts for satellite communication and Earth observation applications. It operates the CubeSatLab for education and research and carries out research funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Luxembourg Science Foundation (FNR).

You will:

  • Investigate satellite communication system engineering aspects such as power consumption, computation power, advanced/intelligent algorithms and data rate; how they are linked and how can they be optimized
  • Research how artificial intelligence methods can help satellite communication applications such as forward error correction and active antenna array optimization through the establishment of a laboratory testbed
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications and conferences
  • Actively contribute to the different research projects, either coordinating technical contributions and/or preparing project deliverables
  • Prepare new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects
  • Provide assistance in the supervision of PhD students

Your Profile...
  • PhD degree in aerospace engineering or a similar field
  • Science-technical experience in some of the following areas:
    • satellite system engineering
    • low earth orbit and constellation design
    • (digital) signal processing
    • satellite communication
    • MATLAB/SIMULINK
    • hardware-in-the-loop simulation and testing
  • Sound publication track record in the topics listed above
  • Programming in C/C++
  • Knowledge of machine learning principles is an asset
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems and embedded systems is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • International experience is desirable
