The Molecular Imaging for Precision Medicine group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher or senior research assistant to work on the implementation of fast pulse sequences on a benchtop NMR spectrometer for 13C hyperpolarization-enhanced NMR experiments.

The contract will be within the framework of the EU FET Open project “Benchtop NMR spectrometer for lab-on-a-chip” (https://blocproject.eu), whose objective is the development of non-invasive assays based on hyperpolarized magnetic resonance (MR) to study real-time metabolism on tissue engineered organ-on-a-chip systems.

Main tasks and responsibilities / The successful candidate will develop research involving:

  • Implement 1D pulse sequences on a benchtop NMR spectrometer (python)

  • Write SOP for the use of the spectrometer in the context of hyperpolarized NMR experiments

  • Run the spectrometer during hyperpolarization experiments, when needed

  • Train students in the use of the spectrometer, basic NMR concepts and good lab practices

  • Collaborate in the development of functional bioreactors for NMR studies

  • General lab/team duties: Participate in weekly project meetings, read lab manuscripts and contribute with ideas and constructive feedback, interact with other lab members, et


Requirements for candidates:
Essential:

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or similar areas

  • Previous experience in liquid state NMR pulse sequence implementation

  • Competencies and skills: Excellent communication and teamworking skills, proactivity, commitment, critical and analytical thinking

  • High level of English

Advantageous:

  • Experience in hyperpolarization techniques such as DNP or PHIP

  • International experience

  • Experience in scientific writing (papers)

  • Multidisciplinary qualifications will be a plus.

    • Full time contract for up to 2 years. Competitive salary/ Salary will be commensurate with academic level and experience.
