ICFO is a research center located in the Mediterranean Technology Park in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, and currently hosts 400+ people, including researchers, PhD students and staff personnel. Today, in its area of specialization and category, the institute is consistently ranked among the highest-quality research institutions worldwide.
The Nanocharacterization Laboratory (a.k.a. NCL) forms a central pillar of nanocharacterization facility for ICFO with state-of-the-art equipment to support ICFO’s mission for training and R&D at the highest international standard. We are currently looking for an NCL Head, who will manage the unit in order to fulfil its mission summarized in the following points:
- To serve ICFO’s Research groups with state-of-the-art Characterization Facilities.
- To serve as a training facility for ICFO students in state-of-the-art equipment.
- Provide Information on Optical/electrical properties, Structure and Composition of Nanomaterials, Nanostructures, Devices produced at NFL and Groups’ Facilities.
- Enable material quality and process control metrology for ICFO and ICFO’s spin-offs.
- To serve as a characterization Facility to external entities (industry, Research Institutes etc).
- Engage in Proposals and Grant acquisition to allow sustainable growth.
The main responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Responsible for the operations and proper functioning of the unit’s equipment facilities.
- Initial planning and hiring of the NCL team.
- Supervision and management of the NCL team (planning, evaluation, career development, etc.).
- Liaise and interact with ICFO’s group leaders on the operation and strategic design and planning of the facility.
- Oversee and manage NCL Finances.
- Proactive in securing financial support for sustainable growth of the facility.
- Writing proposals and grant applications to acquire funding for the expansion and growth of the facility.
- Design specifications and coordinate purchase of equipment, incl. tender definitions.
- Manage collaborations with external customers (academic or industrial users).
- Foster collaboration with companies and industry.
