Offer Description
Over the last decade, increasing settlements of C. sapidus have been recorded in Mediterranean waters, including in the Gulf of Trieste, 70 years after its first appearance. The current change in the environmental conditions of our seas and the euryhaline nature of C. sapidus have probably led to its recent spread not only in marine areas but also in inland waters, generating situations that are still unknown in freshwater and wetland ecosystems. The life cycle of C. sapidus takes place in both marine and brackish or freshwater habitats and involves large reproductive migrations. The project aims to delineate the distribution of the blue crab in the FVG through eDNA monitoring (environmental DNA), starting from the lagoon of Marano and Grado, where its presence has been certain for at least 7 years. Seven initial stations will be selected, which will be sampled at the beginning of the project and further analysed on the way to the inland waters.
