Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Chemistry.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position as a part of an EU Joint Programming Initiative Project entitled `Development of innovative strategies, tools, technologies, and methods for diagnostics and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance'. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team that are developing novel electrochemical biosensor technologies and their integration with novel DNA origami structures.
The JPIAMR project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the University of Strathclyde (electrochemical biosensors), the University of Tartu (DNA origami design and development) and University College Dublin (nanopipettes). Each site will have a Post-doctoral worker and the expectation is that all three researchers will interact across the course of the project to develop novel origami structures and test them using the different sensing modalities. The post at University College Dublin will focus on the immobilisation of novel DNA origami structures into glass nanopipettes and then evaluate the biosensing performance using electrochemical techniques. Key objectives of the project include detection of drug resistance gene sequences, bacterial proteins and to carry out whole pathogen detection using novel origami structures. The project ultimately aims to make a contribution to the detection of antimicrobial resistant infections at the point of care.
This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
Salary range: €50,540 - €53,440 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 3rd May 2024.
Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.
UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV's submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.
The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/
