The dairy processing sector is integral to Ireland's economy, yet a major challenge for the sector is to address sustainability targets, such as those set out in the UN Sustainable Development Agenda and reflected in its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Dairy Processing Technology Centre (DPTC) is an industry-academic collaborative research centre (funded by Enterprise Ireland and Dairy Industry Partners) with a research agenda driven by the long-term sustainable growth opportunities for the dairy sector.
The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of spectroscopists, food engineers and dairy chemists within the DPTC, focusing on the development of predictive models for rapid determination of raw milk compositional and functionality parameters using state-of-the-art spectroscopy techniques (NIR, IR, Fluorescence and Raman). The role includes presenting findings to academic and Industry partners at regular progress meetings, writing reports and scientific papers based on the results.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
*Assist the PI in carrying out demonstration plant trials in industry partners' processing sites.
*Attend multiple online and physical meetings with the other partners of the project.
Assist the PI in leading one of the work packages.
Assist in the preparation of the project deliverables that are led by the PI.
