Deadline: 29 Apr 2022

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Medicine/Diabetes Complications Research Centre/Conway Institute.

Are you a highly motivated and skilled molecular cell biologist? Want to join our dynamic research team and contribute towards our investigations of kidney disease and other inflammatory conditions? Our group is leading the way in discovering the underlying mechanisms and developing promising new therapies for clinical use. Based at the Diabetes Complications Research Centre UCD our research involves collaboration with molecular biologists, clinicians, synthetic chemists and geneticists where mechanistic studies of target gene expression generate novel insights into the pathophysiology of disease and novel therapeutic targets. The successful applicant will play a key role as part of an international consortium attempting to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying kidney disease. The research project will specifically develop on our recent findings around the role of modulators of inflammatory processes such as: (a)lipoxins as therapeutic targets and (b) potential biomarkers of kidney disease. This programme of work is funded by Science Foundation Ireland [SFI] and involves collaboration with investigators at Queen's University Belfast.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in molecular pharmacology, molecular cell biology or a related biomedical discipline and ambition, aptitude and enthusiasm for lab work. Experience with tissue culture, primary cell isolation, organoid cultures, manipulation of gene expression, receptor biology, proteomics and in vivo and ex vivo models is highly relevant. Experience in screening new molecules, handling datasets and bioinformatics analysis are desirable. The ability to communicate and work effectively and independently within a multi-disciplinary team is vital.
