Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of aUCD Post Doc in cell derived matriceswithin UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.UCD Postdoctoral Research Fellow Level 1 - Cell-derived matrices
The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at University College Dublin is looking to recruit 1 Post-doctoral Research Fellows Level 1 for 2-years in cell-derived matrices.
The Lab:
The Regenerative, Modular and Developmental Engineering Laboratory (REMODEL) operates at the crossroads of engineering, chemistry, biology, medicine, entrepreneurship, humanities and social sciences, where education, research, innovation, social responsibility and clinical practice merge to improve human lives. REMODEL is a multidisciplinary and intersectoral hub that develops, derisks and commercialises transformative and disruptive end-user informed:
A. Biomaterial- and cell- based therapeutic, reparative and regenerative products for healthcare.
B. In vitro pathophysiology models for drug discovery.
C. Cellular agriculture and aquaculture meat products for food security.
D. Tools and technologies that enable effective and efficient ex vivo cell propagation for the cell culture sector.
The Project:
Decellularised cell derived matrices are at the forefront of scientific research and technological innovation in the applied fields of biomaterials, cell biology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Cell-derived matrices are multimolecular three-dimensional assemblies that recapitulate, to a certain extent, the composition and organisation of native extracellular matrix supramolecular assemblies. Recent advancements in engineering, chemistry and biology have allowed for the development of sophisticated cell derived matrices that can more effectively than any other device either direct stem cell lineage commitment in vitro or induce functional neotissue formation in vivo, respectively. Despite the very promising indeed preliminary data, such biomimetic structures are still at a relatively nascent stage of development. This project will utilise recent advances in cell culture technologies (e.g. media supplements, bioreactors, etc.) for the development of clinically and commercially relevant cell-derived matrices. Extensive in vitro and in vivo analyses will be conducted in our state of the art facilities, housed at School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering; Charles Institute of Dermatology and Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
* Collaborating with other researchers both in UCD and externally.
* Outreach activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conduct a specified programme of research and scholarship under the supervision and direction of your Principal Investigator.
* Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by your Principal Investigator, your School or Institute, or the University.
* Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which you are engaged as directed by and with the support of and under the supervision of your Principal Investigator.
* Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group, School and Institute.
* Mentor and assist, as appropriate and as directed, the research graduate students in your group, School and Institute.
* Carry out administrative work associated with your programme of research.
Post Doc Level 1 Salary Range: €42,783- €49,177 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
