The Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the role is to provide Trinity students with academic learning services and to equip them with world-class academic and graduate skills for their studies and beyond.

A key component of the role is promotion and partnership of the service across the University to provide a centre of expertise and advice, with a focus on research, evidence-based strategies and approaches to teaching and learning. The role-holder must have proven leadership skills and experience in managing projects in an educational context. The ability to make independent decisions and offer best practice, end-to-end solutions to enhance student learning at university is a key component of this job.

The SLD Advisor will develop and deliver workshops, implementing best-practice educational and psychological principles.  The postholder will manage new initiatives aimed at specific cohorts, for example postgraduate & international students and represent SLD at University working groups where required. The postholder will also provide individual appointments to students to develop their ability to be self-directed learners, coupled with providing a range of proven strategies in academic performance enhancement.

A strong understanding of pedagogy, evidence-based learning strategies and excellent communication skills are all essential, as well as an ability to work effectively within a team.

Context

This role is in the Student Learning Development (SLD) team within the Student Counselling Services (SCS) together with Student Counselling and Student 2 Student, supported by a central Administration team. The Student Counselling Services sits within Student Services in the Corporate Services Division (CSD).

Student Learning Development seeks to enhance student learning through the development and facilitation of research-led approaches to learning in higher education. SLD provides all PG and UG students with evidence-based services and resources to maximise academic potential and to complete their studies successfully, e.g., self-management, academic writing and critical thinking skills. These services include both group and individual supports to students and align with the University strategy to support students.

The role-holder will enhance the student experience at university level through contribution to College committees and projects, such as PG Renewal, Academic Integrity Working Group and others as required. The role involves leading partnerships across student and academic services i.e., Library, International Students, PAS, CAPSL, CELLT, Student Disability Service to ensure a collaborative approach to Student Learning in the University

This role-holder will have responsibility for service delivery in collaboration with members of the SLD team and the wider Trinity community.


The role reports to the SLD Coordinator.

Post status: 1 Year Fixed-Term Contract  

Hours of Post: Part-Time (0.6 FTE)

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Administrative 1 (Points 1-3), Salary Scale ( €65,367 - €84,560 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)
