Summary of Duties:

The Service Center and Special Projects Accountant is a key position in University Accounting in performing various technical accounting and financial duties with focus on review and approval of  service centers and special projects accounting. The incumbent acts as the university’s Service Center Administrator providing guidance, advice, and monitoring to ensure policy compliance.  Responsible for reviewing and approving Service Center cost centers/programs and the continued yearly monitoring. Oversee the administration of the University’s service centers including internal service providers and enterprise accounts. Ensures compliance with state and federal policies and requirements related to establishing and maintaining service center rates to allow charges to sponsored research.  Provide guidance to the university community related to service centers.  Review and approve service center rates and monitor compliance with federal regulations.  
The position serves as  the lead accounting technical support for development of the University’s Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA) proposal and related disclosure.  Incumbent will be responsible for providing operational support, policy development, strategic planning, project management and professional/technical expertise concerning the NICRA proposal.
The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and a general understanding cost accounting and rate setting. This position will be assigned special technical accounting and financial analyses projects including analyzing and implementing new GASB pronouncements and other technical accounting guidance such as the State Wide Accounting Manual, and RCWs, stabilizing and optimizing procedures within Workday and providing technical writing support for developing and maintaining  accounting and procedures for University Accounting, including financial reporting.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or a related field, and three (3) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience using software and technology applications, including Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and relevant web-based applications, that improve workflow and organizational efficiencies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills which includes the ability to author, deliver and provide training of complex material to all levels of constituents.

  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and F&A Rate development and documentation. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of departmental, University, state, federal and sponsor specific laws, rules, regulations and policies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information orally according to the needs of the audience. 

  • The ability to author, deliver and provide training of complex material to all levels of constituents. 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

  • Experience auditing, reconciling, analyzing data.

  • Experience using web-based Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, including Workday.

  • A Master’s degree in a related field.

Monthly Salary: $4,942 - $7,567 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, this salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
