Summary of Post

The objective of this post is to manage and co-coordinate the research, data management, dissemination and commercialization activities of the JNPD 4DPD-Omics Consortium, investigating molecular pathways in Parkinson’s Disease. This includes promoting the interaction of the academic partners and clinical partners of the Consortium and Prof Prehn’s team, to facilitate novel avenues of research support and industry-academia collaborations. The successful candidate will provide a high level function in the ongoing development, maintenance and completion of top-end academic and research collaborations.

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

  • To promote activities of the 4DPD-Omics at all levels
  • To assist the 4DPD-Omics coordinator and the 4DPD-Omics partners in implementing and executing the research and dissemination programme.
  • Responsibility for drafting and updating Data Management Plans (DMPs) with assistance from the RCSI Research Data Officer.
  • Organising and drafting reports for project deliverables.
  • Providing support in the monitoring of progress of research activities
  • Supporting and participating in the network research activities
  • Complying with statutory legislation, RCSI and department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
  • Representing the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times
  • Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time

Skills/Qualifications

Qualifications – (Essential):

  • A primary degree in Biological Sciences/Life Sciences/Health Sciences is essential or alternatively a degree in a related discipline is essential.
  • A higher degree (e.g., PhD) and background in biomedical science and prior research and education managing skills is desirable.
  • Experience in research management and its implementation, policies, dissemination and outreach activities and data management is of advantage
  • Experience in IPR and commercialisation activities is of advantage
  • Effective communications style
  • Effective leadership qualities
  • Proficiency in Computer/Presentation skills
  • Ability to make decisions and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative as well as in a team environment

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with academic and clinical experts.
  • Experience of managing research project grant applications
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information
  • An effective and clear communication style appropriate to audience and situation
  • Strong evidence of ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Experience in liaising with key project stakeholders
  • Excellent IT and report-writing skills

Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable):

  • Experience of working with patients and/or clinical settings
  • Experience in developing PPI initiatives
