Post Summary

The School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to assist with service improvement innovation initiatives with the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group (DMHG) (Tallaght University Hospital and Naas General Hospitals). The role will involve liaising between the service providers at DMHG and the research teams in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin.  The collaboration with DMHG aims to improve evidence-based care and practice and to support innovation in nursing practice through increased research activities and internationally peer reviewed outputs for dissemination to the wider nursing population.

This position will appeal to anyone who wishes to develop their research career and profile. The post holder will be based between DMHG (TUH & NGH) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) and Nass General Hospital (NGH). The post holder will receive training, guidance and support, where relevant. This post is offered on a full-time basis (5 days per week), and the successful candidate will be expected to commence in post as soon as possible.

Details of the Service Dublin Midlands Hospital Group

The seven hospitals in the DMHG are made up of two Model 4 hospitals, three Model 3 Hospitals, one maternity hospital and one specialty hospital.  These hospitals provide emergency as well as elective inpatient and outpatient care to a population of 800,000 people across the counties of Dublin, Kildare, Laois and Offaly. The hospitals within the Group are as follows:

  • St. James Hospital, Dublin
  • Tallaght University Hospital Dublin
  • St. Luke’s Oncology Radiology Network, Rathgar, Dublin
  • Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital, Dublin
  • Nass General Hospital, Kildare
  • Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, Laois
  • Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, Offaly

The DMHG primary academic partner is Trinity College Dublin (TCD). A wide range of educational programmes are available to the DMHG and research is conducted within all our Group hospitals. The DMHG has supported this post to work collaboratively across TUH & NGH.

Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is an exciting and dynamic place to work. The Hospital team are in the midst of implementing a new hospital strategy that has already delivered on the opening of a new renal unit, day surgery centre, step down facility in the community and the opening of a new ICU extension. The hospital is also in the process of implementing an Acute Floor Model with the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Age related Assessment Unit and Acute Surgical Assessment Unit. TUH is one of Ireland’s main teaching hospitals with so many future plans to enhance patient care. TUH is one of Ireland’s largest acute teaching hospitals, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. The Hospital has 450 adult beds with over 3,500 people on staff and more than 50 different nationalities represented.

Naas General Hospital is a 243 bedded acute public hospital serving the catchment area of Kildare and West-Wicklow with a population of over a quarter of a million people. NGH services are designed to meet the needs of the adult (over 14 years) population in this catchment area. The majority of hospital activity results from unscheduled inpatient admissions through the Emergency Department (ED).
