Post: Research Fellow - Precision ALS Project (Fixed-Term Specified Purpose Wholetime for up to 3 Years with initial funding for up to 12 months) (Reference: 111/2024)

 

Location:  The successful candidate will initially be based in TU Dublin, Grangegorman but may be reassigned at the discretion of TU Dublin.     

 

Hours of Work: A 37 hour working week is in operation.

 

Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed at point (01) of the Research Fellow Salary Scale i.e. €61,318 gross per annum. Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Incremental credit may apply in line with University policy.

 

Closing Date: The closing date for applications is 5:00pm (Irish Time) on 29th March 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

 

It is anticipated that interviews for this post will take place in week beginning 01st May 2024. The interview assessment will be 50 minutes in length and will include a presentation of 10 minutes duration.  The topic of this presentation will be as follows:

“My experiences and how they make me the right person for the Precision ALS Programme”

Knowledge and Experience

  • An Honours taught degree from an approved degree awarding institution or equivalent in Computer Science, Statistics, or other relevant numerate discipline. (Essential)
  • Research degree, normally PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or other relevant numerate discipline.(Essential)

and

  • Significant post-doctoral research experience, or equivalent research and development experience (five years) in the public or private sector (Essential)
  • Evidence of strong research publication record (Essential)
  • Extensive knowledge of research techniques and methodologies(Essential)
  • Extensive experience of working with health, biomedical, or image data (Essential)
  • Experience of the preparation of funding applications (Desirable)

Role Overview

The post holder’s primary responsibility will be to conduct research on data modelling of ALS patient data to further understanding of outcome analysis, methods for patient cohortisation, and non-hypothesis driven data analysis. The post holder may also work in partnership with others on specific modality data and on the challenges associated with model adaption with respect to different clinical settings and patient cohorts. This work will be related to the Precision-ALS programme and any projects funded that are associated with that programme.

More generally the post holder will be expected to conduct original impactful research as part of a collaborative multi-centre team, where he or she will be assumed to take responsibility for key aspects of the programme(s). This will include the development of models, publication of research papers, and collaboration on the design, construction, and evaluation of a software platform to support the analysis of ALS data from a multinational consortium.

The post holder will be expected to help with other activities in keeping with a senior research position, including engagement with the host research group(s), identification of funding opportunities, authoring of research funding proposals, and mentoring of junior researchers.

The post holder will have a direct reporting line to the TU Dublin P-ALS lead, but will work directly with nominated senior academics in the TU Dublin P-ALS team.
