Research Fellow - Post-Doctoral Researcher in the development of groundwater recharge mapping

Updated: 2 months ago
Location: Dublin Bar, LEINSTER
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 16 Feb 2024

This project aims to develop and implement a methodology to evaluate the vulnerability of

groundwater recharge to a changing climate in Ireland. The project is a collaboration between Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and South East Technical University (SETU), and will establish a practical, repeatable methodology for the estimation of historic and future groundwater recharge rates to better understand the factors impacting on and the likely trends in future groundwater recharge. The research project, AQCLIMATE, will be completed over a 24-month timeframe. The successful candidate will be working collaboratively with a 2nd post-doctoral researcher based in SETU. Both researchers on this project will also be working in close collaboration with another European project related to groundwater recharge which is commencing within the research group.

The successful post-doctoral researcher will lead and carry out some or all of the following tasks:

  • Review quantitative approaches for the spatial and temporal mapping of groundwater recharge and evaluating climate change impacts on groundwater recharge in Ireland
  • Develop a methodology to generate national groundwater recharge across a range of temporal scenarios.
  • Validate the methodology using hydrological and hydrogeological data
  • Develop national GIS datasets/maps using Python scripts which will also form a deliverable from the project.
  • Please see full job description for full application procedure.
