Updated: about 23 hours ago
Location: Dublin Bar, LEINSTER
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 03 May 2024

Post Summary

We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to work on the SOCMED (Social media and adolescent mental health) work package of the VISTA project (VISion To Action for promoting mental health and recovery: An Implementation Science approach to “Sharing the Vision” - Ireland's national mental health policy). The VISTA project comprises 6 work packages that together focus on how recommendations within “Sharing the Vision” can be best implemented, thereby bridging the gap between policy and policy implementation. The SOCMED work package, led by Dr Louise Doyle (TCD) and Prof Mary Cannon (RCSI) is focusing on Recommendation 2 ‘Evidence-based digital and social media channels should be used to the maximum to promote mental health and to provide appropriate signposting to services and supports’. Social media can be a powerful positive influence in the lives of young people, but also an area of potential harm. Understanding how young people in Ireland engage with social media, should lead to more effective policy for promotion of positive mental health and resilience in young people. This work package will identify how social media can be used as a tool for mental health promotion.

The SOCMED work package utilizes a mixed methods design over 3 phases. Identification of relevant implementation determinants grounded in a scoping review (Phase 1) and in the views of participants in the qualitative phases (Phases 2a and 2b) and analyses of two large population-based studies of Irish youth (Phase 2c), will contribute to the design and roll-out of a survey to explore these determinants with a larger sample of young people in a quantitative phase (Phase 2d). The purpose of this post is to support the delivery of Phases 1, 2a and 2b.

This post is offered on a full-time basis and will start immediately. This position will appeal to anyone who wishes to develop their research career and profile. The salary is commensurate with the IUA scale for a postdoctoral position. The post will primarily be based in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin, 24 D’Olier Street, Dublin 2, however, the post may require travel to data collection sites. The post holder will be part of the ’Mental Health and Recovery’ research theme and where necessary will receive training, guidance and support.

Please note that Garda vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for a post.
