Applications are invited for a Temporary Fixed term post until 31st December 2023 of a Research Assistant within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.


Food for Health Ireland (FHI;

) is a centre for functional food development funded by Enterprise Ireland and members of the Irish Food Industry. FHI combines expertise from a number of national institutes including University College Dublin, Teagasc and others. This position will be located at University College Dublin.


A senior research assistant candidate is sought to join a research team focusing on nutrition and health solutions within FHI. The research will involve conducting a human study to examine the effect of a novel nutrition supplement on immune and gut health. One aspect of the project will focus specifically on mother and infant nutrition and health. The intervention outcome measures will include gut microbiota profiles, blood biomarkers (e.g. lipids, hormones, cytokines), epigenetic profiles, breast milk biomarkers (e.g. hormones, cytokines, SigA), metabolomic profiles and others.

The successful candidate will be tasked with coordinating the human study, subsequent laboratory and statistical analysis, and writing of scientific publications. As well as the scientific duties, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to management aspects of the project, supporting the lead researcher in the management of the team and work undertaken.

Salary Scale: Research Assistant €27,380 - €36,786 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
