Position Summary

Applications are invited for a 1-year part-time research assistant for the Barnahus Ireland: Implementation Support Project. The position is based in the the School of Applied Social Studies | University College Cork (ucc.ie) which is a dynamic centre for research, learning and teaching in the social sciences. Based in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, it is a university hub for social science research, social activism, community engagement, and inclusion and access initiatives for mature and non-traditional learners. With over 40 permanent staff and disciplinary specialisms in Social Policy, Social Work and Youth and Community Work, the School delivers degree programmes from undergraduate to doctoral level and is a leading provider of professionally accredited education/training in Social Work, Youth and Community Work, and Early Years and Childhood Studies. It also has an expanding portfolio of programmes supporting Continuous Professional Development and Lifelong Learning. The School has a vibrant postgraduate community, a diverse cohort of postdoctoral researchers and strong community-academic research links. Informed by an ethos of social justice, the staff cohort engage in teaching and research that is mapped to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, student centred, provides challenging academic critique of social issues and informs policy and practice to address social inequalities.

The Barnahus model is currently being implemented in Ireland to realise a standard practice child who have experienced child sexual abuse, violence and exploitation and their families rapid access to justice and care. The Barnahus model provides multi-disciplinary and interagency collaboration to ensure that children and their families  benefit from a child-friendly, professional and effective response in a safe environment which prevents (re)traumatisation.  The project will support the implementation of Branahus Ireland through the development of a trauma informed care, incorporating advocacy and participation training programme for professional staff. This project aims to advance. the children’s rights to quality standard of care who come into contact with the Barnahus core staff and the key stakeholders who each have a role to uphold children’s rights to safety, information, participation, protection, and provision of services in line with international children’s rights standards (UNCRC).

Salary:  €30,025 - €39,908 p.a. (IUA Research Assistant Salary Scale) pro rata 0.5 FTE
