About Our Research

Summary of Post

The School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences (https://www.rcsi.com/dublin/about/facultyof-medicine-and-health-science… ) at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland currently has a position available for a research assistant funded by Enterprise Ireland. The project focuses on the commercialisation of advanced materials for mRNA therapeutic delivery. Reporting directly to Dr Sarinj Fattah, the researcher will also work closely with other members of multidisciplinary project team including PIs, postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers with this research cluster.

Applicant should have a higher degree plus 2-3 years of research/ industrial experience in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or material science. The applicant must have a strong interest in innovation and entrepreneurship and in the translation of new technologies. 

 

Specifically, the duties of the post are:

  • Day to day management and delivery of the scientific work associated with the research grant
  • Work with the PI, Postdoctoral Researcher, PPI panel and wider research team, to ensure the success of the project;
  • Assisting with data extraction and analysis as required
  • Support the preparation for project management group meetings; scientific reports and grant reports as required
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be determined by the PI
  • Preparation of invention disclosures and input into patents if required
  • Other such duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
  • Representing the best interests of the Department/College at all times

 

Qualifications – (Essential):

  • A Maters or higher degree qualification in relevant area (chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or material science)

Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):

  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate complex ideas
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team: Ability to operate effectively as part of a team – is cordial, tolerant and willing to help others, is co-operative and patient; shares work and information; establishes rapport, can influence and develop effective networks
  • I.T. skills: Knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Conscientious: Have a pro-active approach to work, anticipating and resolving problems in advance; have keen attention to detail - from anticipating and addressing issues in advance to understanding requests and delivering quality work with minimal errors.
  • Flexibility: Can operate flexibly within a busy environment; can shift focus when required.
  • Motivated: Display a ‘can-do’ attitude, demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the role.
  • Project Management Skills: Ability to ensure that project plans are communicated and that all timelines are met (Desirable)
