Position Summary

APC Microbiome Ireland is a globally-leading research centre focused upon investigating the role of the human microbiome in health and disease. The APC is performing fundamental and applied research which is changing our understanding of how the gut microbiome interacts with the host, and how it effects of wide range of a wide range of host physiological processes. Within APC Microbiome Ireland and the School of Microbiology in UCC, Professor O'Toole's lab is a leading authority on the role of the gut microbiome in healthy aging, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and colorectal cancer. We use research approaches including classical microbiology, molecular microbiology, high end bioinformatics and ecological methods. We now seek to employ a research assistant to occupy a key position in the laboratory. The appointee will participate in exciting projects that feature collaborations with oncologists, gerontologist, food scientists and bioinformaticians to investigate the mechanisms whereby gut microbes interact with diet and modulate aging-related health loss. We would like to recruit an experienced research assistant who is comfortable working in microbiology, cell biology and tissue culture, and microbial ecology. Experience of several of these approaches at MSc level is desirable but equivalent industry experience will also be entertained.

UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.

Salary: €30,025 - €39,908 p.a. (IUA Research Assistant Salary Scale)
