Deadline: 11 Jan 2023

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

Maynooth University (MU) is seeking to adopt Universal Design in our institutional approach to embracing diversity within our teaching and learning practice. Universal Design (UD) is a research-based framework that guides the design of accessible and effective environments that benefit all. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an extension of, and is underpinned by UD, so that the design of the educational process, environment and curriculum is usable by the widest range of learners, in a more inclusive environment.

Phase 1 of PATH (Programme for Access to Higher Education) which is funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) will support the embedding of UD approaches and inclusive practices in HEIs which will benefit all students, including autistic and neurodiverse students, and enable the building of capacity in HEIs for greater participation by students with intellectual disabilities in higher education.

We are seeking a PATH 4 Project Officer to lead and deliver the PATH 4, Strand 1 - Universal Design in Education project at Maynooth University. The PATH 4 Project Officer will play a key role in developing a strategy and framework for the adoption of UD for learning approaches to inform the curricula, culture, policy, and practices of MU as a whole-of-institution approach to support student and institutional success.

The Project Officer will work with a Teaching and Learning Development Officer, the Project Steering Group, the Project Implementation Group, and key project stakeholders to deliver the Maynooth University UD initiative. The post holder will lead and coordinate the PATH 4, Strand 1 - Universal Design in Education project.

There are five strands in this project:

  • Deliver Quiet & Sensory Space/s as an inclusive support for all students on campus.
