Applications are invited for a Permanent post of a UCD Professor of Chemical Pathology within UCD School of Medicine

Together, UCD, SVUH and NMH seek to expand its clinical academic leadership in Pathology by attracting an outstanding translational scientist whose research is focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of human disease. Pathology is a core element within our Medicine curriculum and staff within this subject area provide teaching to our undergraduate medicine (direct entry and graduate entry) programmes.

We seek to appoint a Full Professor of Chemical Pathology / Consultant Chemical Pathologist who will provide academic and clinical leadership at the Hospitals. This is a permanent senior leadership role which will provide excellence in adult and neonatal care. The UCD Professor of Chemical Pathology will be based at St Vincent's University Hospital and at The National Maternity Hospital, where they will be an academic leader working with colleagues to oversee the design, delivery, assessment and quality of modules and programmes for undergraduate and graduate students. They will be an experienced clinical leader who will contribute to the development of a state-of-the-art clinical chemical pathology clinical services at both Hospitals and across the island.

Clinical Care

The candidate will be a fully trained specialist in Chemical Pathology and will be eligible for registration (within 6 months of the date of the interview) in the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register of Medical Practitioners. They will have the necessary experience to lead a clinical service at St Vincent's University Hospital and at The National Maternity Hospital that builds on and complements existing care services.

Research

The appointee will have an excellent, world-class track record in clinical translational research, a proven ability to attract substantial extra-mural research funding and an ability to build and lead a productive research team. They will develop an internationally competitive programme of novel research and build collaborations with other investigators in the University, the Hospital and beyond.

Teaching

The successful candidate will provide academic leadership in Chemical Pathology teaching at both an undergraduate and a postgraduate level. S/he will be responsible for the discharge of UCD pathology teaching at the Hospitals. The appointee will have experience in the design, development and delivery of high-quality educational programmes and be familiar with modern pedagogical methodologies.

Salary Scale: Health Service Executive - Academic Consultant Type B Salary scale at the first point in scale or in line with current Government pay policy and commensurate with experience.
