Offer Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time, fixed term (2 year) position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Irish Centre for Applied Patient Safety and Simulation and the Discipline of General Practice at the University of Galway, Ireland.

This position is funded by the HSE National Simulation Office and is available from 1 May 2024 to contract end date of 30 April 2026

Healthcare simulation is a modern method to train healthcare professionals. Simulation can be used to improve performance that results in improved patient outcomes and safer care. Although it is known that there are a wide range of healthcare simulation activities carried out Ireland, there is little oversight of what activities are being carried out or by whom. Therefore, there is a need to understand what healthcare simulation activities are being carried out in Ireland, identify how to support and foster simulation, and build a network of simulationists.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will support the data collection and analysis activities of the project. They will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day running of the project with support from the multidisciplinary research team

Duties:

  • Use a survey methodology to develop an understanding of the healthcare simulation activities in Ireland.
  • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to identify the barriers and enablers to the growth of healthcare simulation activities.
  • Support the development of a simulation community of practice and resources to support the growth of simulation in Ireland.
  • Any other duties assigned commensurate to this level of post.

Qualifications/Skills required:

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in psychology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative research methods.
  • Evidence of publishing research in peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of healthcare simulation.
  • Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Experience in writing up research.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of conducting research with healthcare workers.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of working independently.
  • Good communication skills

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €42,782 - €54,965 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.

The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
