Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Immunology

Updated: about 1 month ago

Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 15 Mar 2024

A postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available to work on ‘Induction and regulation of immune responses in the nose - informing the design of an effective nasal vaccine against Bordetella pertussis’

Studies from the Mills lab and others have suggested thar vaccination by the nasal route using appropriate mucosal adjuvants has the potential to induce local immunity and immunological memory in the respiratory tract mediated by tissue resident memory T cells (TRM cells) and memory B cells. Our hypothesis is that there is unique composition and activation status of immune cells in the nasal tissue, making it an ideal inductive site for the generation of sterilizing immunity and immunological memory, but that appropriate signals are required to overcome immunological tolerance in the nose. A full understanding of the immune response in the nasal tissue will help to inform the design of more effective vaccines against Bordetella pertussis and other respiratory pathogens.

The Immune Regulation Research Group is located in School of Biochemistry and Immunology, The Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin. Further details at: https://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/research/mills/
