Research Description:

Our pioneering lab focuses on building models of lung disease using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) with the aims to further understand disease pathogenesis and to identify new treatments and cures to help patients in Ireland and internationally. The lab has a particular focus on personalised medicine and has a number of funded projects studying monogenic lung diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis and Familial Pulmonary Fibrosis. We employ the latest techniques to reprogram patient samples to iPSC and gene editing technologies such as CRISPR to correct genetic mutations. The candidate will join a dynamic team of scientific faculty, physician-scientists and other faculty.

Summary of Post

The applicant will generate iPSC from patients and differentiate these to lung epithelial cells. They will also maintain a bank of iPSC which will form the basis of exciting experiments. The successful applicant will also contribute to ongoing research carried out by the lab and based in the Dept of Medicine.
