Overview of the Role

PRO-CLIMATE is a €4m Horizon Europe-funded research and innovation project to support communities in proactively adapting to climate change through social transformation and behavioural change.

PRO-CLIMATE will identify social tipping points and policy actions that enable systemic transformation to be achieved across social systems. PRO-CLIMATE will adopt an approach guided by the concept of systems thinking, which views communities as complex systems that are interconnected and influenced by multiple factors, socio-economic and environmental.

By understanding and leveraging their dynamics, it will then develop strategies and interventions that promote social transformation and behavioural change. This will result in a robust framework for designing effective methodologies and tools to foster proactive, adaptive behaviours and facilitate transformative changes.

A set of diverse (in terms of climate change problems and socioeconomic contexts) case studies across Europe will be an instrumental tool for the co-creation, validation, and upscaling of this framework by running living labs and bringing stakeholders together to understand community governance and institutional structures, and to also pilot and validate the project's behaviour change activities.

The research scientist (Post-doctoral researcher) will be a highly motivated PhD graduate in the area of environmental sciences/ engineering, behaviour change, socioeconomics, or any related discipline.

The Research Scientist (Post-Doctoral Researcher) will be responsible for supporting the Atlantic TU Sligo PRO-CLIMATE project team in implementing the programmes of work specified for Atlantic TU Sligo’s research activity in the project and supporting the PRO-CLIMATE project partners as part of the collaborative research program.

The candidate will have a strong interest in climate change, inequalities and social justice and will develop relevant research to deliver climate solutions that help to eliminate social and economic inequities.

The Research Scientist (Post-Doctoral Researcher) will be in charge of the following tasks:

  • to lead and implement a number of PRO-CLIMATE project research tasks
  • to lead the establishment, coordination and management of the project’s living labs.
  • to organise the procedures for internal communication within the consortium related to the assigned research tasks and the collection of reports and deliverables.
  • to support the organisation, preparation and follow up of periodical meetings and tasks meetings
  • to assess in identifying and developing new research and innovation opportunities.
  • to contribute to other research projects as directed by the line manager.

The appointee will carry out such duties as are assigned by management, including, but not limited to:

  • Timely and effective research delivery of the research project
  • Operation within the university’s health and safety guidelines
  • To carry out research in collaboration with project partners.

  • Drafting associated and required reports and research articles.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with relevant partners.
  • Assisting in and preparing ATU Sligo funding applications.
