Position Summary
Project description: The successful candidate will explore the ecologic and climatic signatures of a major mass extinction event. Data collection will be conducted both in the field and in the lab, and will focus on: 1, plant micro- and mesofossils; and 2, geochemical proxies of past climate change. Building upon previously collected fossil and geochemical data sets, this project will form an integral part of a growing research collaboration between Ireland, Australia, Sweden, France and the USA.
Research environment: The Cork Palaeontology Group (CPG) is a vibrant and supportive community of palaeontology researchers with a broad range of expertise. The CGP consists of 18 researchers or research support staff, and hosts a range of cutting-edge facilities. In 2023, the CPG was awarded University College Cork’s “Research Team of the Year”. The Postdoctoral Researcher would join the Mass Extinction Group (led by Principal Investigator, Dr Chris Mays) explores the complex interrelationships between climate stressors and continental ecosystems. The Mass Extinction Group regularly publishes in high-prestige journals, including Science, Nature Communications, Geology and Earth-Science Reviews.

Salary: €43,908 - €50,302 (IUA PD1 Salary Scale)
