Post Summary
Applications are invited for the above post, which will support the delivery, assessment and organisation of the undergraduate teaching programme in Ophthalmology as part of the five-year degree course in medicine at Trinity College Dublin. The post offers the opportunity to gain experience and skills in medical education particularly small and large group teaching, workplace-based teaching, and written and clinical assessment including standard setting. There is an expectation that the post holder will undertake a postgraduate qualification or degree (MSc, MD or PhD) in medical education or a clinical research area supported by the Academic Unit of Ophthalmology. The post is particularly suitable for a postgraduate trainee in Ophthalmology planning an out-of-programme experience as part of higher specialist training.
The post holder will be based at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH). The post holder will be part of the wider Trinity team based across the Trinity network (St. James Hospital and Tallaght University Hospital). On occasion the post holder will have to attend teaching and related academic activities at Tallaght University Hospital or main campus. The post will include a limited clinical commitment at the RVEEH as defined by the Clinical Teaching Lead in Ophthalmology. The expectation is that the post holder will allocate their weekly sessions as follows: approximately 40% (4 sessions) to teaching activities (including preparatory time), 40% (4 sessions) to research activities (including academic writing time) and up to a maximum of 20% (1 clinical and 1 surgical session) to a defined clinical activity.
The successful candidates must complete all relevant pre-employment checks upon commencement of post, including but not limited to; be registered with the Irish Medical Council, be cleared from a Garda vetting, and be cleared from occupational health perspective by the relevant hospital.
Post status: The appointment is offered on a one-year fixed term contract basis with a potential for renewal up to a maximum of 3 years. The appointment is available from 8th July 2024.
Salary: This appointment will be made on the HSE Registrar scale €63,078 - €74,280 per annum scale or HSE Specialist Registrar scale €70,716 - €88,043 per annum in line with current public pay policy.
