We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Education (with Specialism in Education Guidance Counselling). They should have a Doctorate in Education (or cognate area) or be nearing completion of their Doctorate. The preferred candidate will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching and research programmes of the Department, undertaking teaching duties on the Department’s Education Guidance Counselling programme and the Initial Teacher Education programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also be expected to contribute to Master’s and Doctoral level modules and supervision as well as conduct placement supervision if required. They will have the theoretical and professional knowledge required to develop student teachers in Education Guidance Counselling to support their practice in classrooms and schools. Experience of working in teacher education and researching into school-based settings is highly desirable. The preferred candidate will also be able to work collaboratively in supporting the collegial work of the Department and to assume administrative and course leadership duties, in particular on Education Guidance Counselling and as required on the Department’s programmes.
The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, undertake engaged research, and generate publications of international standard. They will be expected to supervise research students up to doctoral level. The person appointed will have a record of teaching, research, and publication, appropriate to career stage.
Salary
Assistant Professor / Lecturer (Post 1995*): €55,951 – €88,601 p.a. (7 points)
Assistant Lecturer (Post 1995) €35,598 – €62,211 p.a. (14 points)
* Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions
