Temporary Externally Funded Non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 20 months, subject to contract.  A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.

Background:

Teagasc seeks to recruit a Research Officer to work on a project funded by Science Foundation Ireland to conduct research in application of sustainable packaging formats for horticultural crops. The primary objective is to offer a commercial, sustainable, bio-based compostable packaging format for horticultural produce and compare their performance with existing packaging materials.

Basic Function:

This role will involve testing the techno-functional properties of diverse range of packaging materials as well as test their performance in automatic packaging machines and extending the shelf life of the packaged content. The role will also involve studying packaging interventions such as the effect of one or combination of green non- thermal food preservation technologies in extending the shelf life of the horticultural produce in order to reduce post-harvest losses. The successful candidate will maintain good communication with the stakeholders, project partners and the project coordinator and project staff.
